STEM NOLA Partners with Atmos Energy for “The Science of Natural Gas” STEM Day on August 11, 2026
The free educational event will give Lincoln Elementary School students the opportunity to investigate the science of natural gas through interactive STEM activities.
New Orleans, LA — STEM NOLA, in partnership with Atmos Energy, is proud to present The Science of Natural Gas STEM Day on Tuesday, August 11, 2026, at Lincoln Elementary School in Marrero, Louisiana. This engaging, hands-on STEM experience will introduce Lincoln Elementary students to the science behind natural gas through exciting experiments and interactive activities designed to spark curiosity and strengthen their understanding of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.
As part of STEM NOLA’s mission to inspire, engage, and expose young people to STEM, The Science of Natural Gas STEM Day showcases Atmos Energy’s commitment to educating and empowering the next generation through hands-on STEM learning. Together, STEM NOLA and Atmos Energy will transform real-world energy concepts into engaging educational experiences, giving Lincoln Elementary students the opportunity to explore the science behind natural gas through interactive experiments and activities. Guided by STEM professionals, college student volunteers, and community partners, students will gain a deeper appreciation for how science, engineering, and energy innovation power the world around them.
“Energy is something students interact with every day, yet few have the opportunity to explore the science behind how it powers their homes, schools, and communities,” said Dr. Calvin Mackie, founder and CEO of STEM NOLA. “Through our partnership with Atmos Energy, we’re helping students connect classroom science to real-world applications in a way that’s engaging, relevant, and memorable. When young people understand how STEM shapes the world around them, they’re better equipped to imagine themselves as the innovators who will shape its future.” Linda Waters, Vice President of Public Affairs at Atmos Energy, added, “Natural Gas plays a vital role in fueling energy needs today and for generations to come.”
Volunteers Needed:
STEM professionals and college students are invited to volunteer and help inspire the next generation of engineers, scientists, and innovators.
